Lecture:
After the war on drugs; regulation and the future of harm reduction.
As more jurisdictions around the world respond to the historic failings of enforcement based drug policies with reforms to policy and law, the debate around alternative approaches, including regulation, has moved from the margins into the mainstream of political debate. The discussion of potential legal regulation models for some currently illegal drugs has moved from the theoretical to practical - as increasing numbers of countries are planning or actively implementing cannabis regulation. This debate is now moving to include other drugs - including the use of stimulants and other drugs in the night time economy and party scene. This presentation will explore what this might mean in practice, and how it can support the wider pragmatic harm reduction agenda - in terms of policy design and implementation.
